Hello again! I was delighted to see a new Union Flag flying from the North Crawley flagpole this week, in time for Remembrance Sunday next month. I know there%u2019s been a lot of talk about flags recently, and so Ithought I would add my thoughts because flags are a very Britishway of expressing joy and pride. I have no problem with the recent outburst of St George%u2019s Crosses, Union or other patriotic flags adorning street furniture, and if it is done with good intentions I don%u2019t know anyone that does. However, over time and with the October weather closing in, will the bearers of our colours be maintaining or replacing those flags to uphold the honour and dignity of what those colours represent? Or will they leave them like wet tea towels to fall to the ground as soggy leaves in the Autumn. It is customary to ensure flags are kept clean and in good condition. A tattered, ripped or faded flag can be seen as disrespectful. The Union Flag (or Union Jack) & St George%u2019s Cross should never touch the ground, unless for the few sanctioned reasons. Additionally, when the flag is no longer fit for display, it should be disposed of in a dignified manner Patriotism isn%u2019t just for virtue signalling when you%u2019re angry. It%u2019s a whole life commitment.Well done North Crawley Parish Council. Have a lovely October everyone.Dear ReadersDEADLINE FOR NOVEMBER: 18TH OCTOBER
