DEADLINE FOR NOVEMBER: 18TH OCTOBERDEAR FRIENDSHalloween or All Saints?Have you noticed all the Halloween merchandise in shops for the past couple of weeks? There is nothing at all about the much more important day that follows. Halloween is a simplification of %u201cAll Hallows Eve%u201d. It precedes %u201cAll Saints Day%u201d. Saints are not just the occupants of spaces in our stainedglass windows of our beautiful churches. The word %u201csaint%u201d is derived from a Greek verb whose basic meaning is %u201cto set apart, %u201c %u201csanctify, %u201c or %u201cmake holy. Saints, in the New Testament, are never deceased individuals who have been canonized by the church and given sainthood. They are living individuals who have dedicated themselves to the worship and service of God as revealed through his Son, Jesus Christ. These saints have been with us since New Testament times and are often most unlikely people. Here are images of three of them:
