PAGE 17My word it%u2019s not only the children who have fun in Astwood, we grown-ups do too. The young ones shared a great Halloween night with hot dogs, hot chocolate, best outfit competition, followed by Trick or Treating! Whilst the week prior we had our Quiz Evening with teams of six all trying to outsmart each other. Pizzas were made and delivered from The Pub. Thank you!All this fun organised by our Villagers in our own Village Hall, which incidentally is a perfect venue to hire. The cost being %u00a310 per hour if you are a resident, %u00a315 per hour if not.If you haven%u2019t had a chance to taste the New Italian Menu in the pub? Chef Roberto would be delighted to cook for you. The flickers, flames and glow of the fire will welcome you as you head inside the front door.Trust all the newcomers are settling in and enjoying village life.Bye for nowDuck or Grouse.A winter crop needs to be drilled at this time of year, so that it has time to germinate before the cold weather arrives, when it goes dormant until the Spring. This practice gives it a longer period to grow before a hopefully faster start to summer harvest, and a potentially higher yield. It%u2019s a gamble, so it%u2019s important to get it right. Oli Rose knows what he%u2019s doing. He%u2019s driving a Fendt 939 Vario with 350hp. The field is in Astwood and he%u2019s drilling Winter Wheat. That drill is 6mm wide and can plant without cultivation (ploughing). This is good for the land too, as it fits well into crop rotation.Local Farmers have been busy all month finishing their drilling efforts.
